Explore the Himalayas (April 08 Days; # 318)
The enthralling Central Himalayan Safari
The jewels in the crown of the Kumaon Himalayan Range are the scenic towns of Nainital, Ranikhet, Kausani, Munsyari and Jageshwar. These are also popular for summer vacations. The journey is adorned with the mountainous landscape, flowery meadows, rivers, and brooks, oak and rhododendron hillsides, deodar rich mountains are magical elements that would tickle your fancy.
You cannot but explore innumerable facets of this Himalayan region. The journey will meander through the interesting old Lake town of Nainital, working our way up to the delightful sleepy town of Ranikhet that also has a gold course, then onwards to Munsyari after spending a few nights at Kausani. Kausani is where one feels right under the nose of the Himalayas as the peaks looming right in front of you. We drive to Munsyari, the ancient Bhutia town, also what I call The Last Frontier. This is the ancient trade route and the link between Tibet and India, that hold rich traditions, culture, and wildlife.
Let the next drive be an early morning one to avoid hill traffic, all the way to Jageshwar. Jageshwar is the real highlight of the tour. It has its own charm of rivers, old architecture and spiritual temples, the influence of Hinduism and Shaivism, great Satvik food and many short treks this place offers. This is ‘the’ place for photographers.
The old Shiva temples reverberate energy; therefore, many Yogis are drawn here who seek inner peace. This was the ancient route for the holy pilgrimage to Kailash and Mansarovar in Tibet. The art and culture are preserved here in its true spirit which renders a lot of cultures and the feel of an ancient Himalayan town.
A few days here will satiate your appetite for a wonderful Himalayan holiday, beating the summer heat of the plains of Northern India.
